When discussing electronic health records (EHR) solutions, it’s difficult to avoid the debate between best-of-breed and integrated systems. Recently, we conducted a study to observe EHR usage in the greater Nashville, Tennessee area. Amidst other interesting market observations, it was noted that 74 percent of office-based practices currently use an EHR system. For dental practices in the Nashville area, that number is at 80 percent. Of the dental practices in the Nashville area utilizing an EHR solution in their practice, 75 percent use a best-of-breed system. With an average overall dentistry EHR satisfaction of 8.5 out of 10 – higher than the National average and the Nashville average – there is something to be said for dentistry specific best-of-breed options.
