Hi, I'm Justin Fraction for TechnologyAdvice. I think it's safe to say that a majority of people look to the Internet when searching for new careers to pursue. So if you're a company ready to start hiring, you're probably already considering utilizing a job board site that pairs well with your applicant tracking system, or ATS, to help you comb through hundreds of potential candidates. However, that can be a difficult match to find that won't take a chunk out of your budget.
Plus, there's hurdles that you'll have to consider, like learning new systems and integration limitations. Luckily, there's a hybrid solution that is affordable and attracts thousands of job seekers daily. It's called Indeed. Let's begin with a quick history lesson. Indeed was initially created back in 2004 to help everyone find the perfect job or the right person for the job by creating a hybrid job board and ATS. Though Indeed nowadays is most known as a job board site, employers registered on Indeed can access integrations that work seamlessly with their chosen ATS and HR stack tools to make hiring faster and easier.
As for pricing, that depends on the services you want to use, but the majority of employers can post jobs for free just like other job search engines. Not to mention, you can occasionally pay to promote posts as targeted job ads to help you stand out, which can be financially beneficial for small businesses or companies working with limited budgets. With all that in mind, let's talk about what you can access, and specifically do as an employer. Posting jobs is undoubtedly one of the most important work features for any job board.
So how does Indeed hold up? Well, for starters, it operates like a traditional job board site. Employers can make an account and start posting job openings for free. Beyond posting job titles and job descriptions, Indeed also lets employers create a presence with company pages, which lets one add a description of their company, logo, photos and more. Applicants and employees can also visit the company's page to leave reviews. As for managing the account, all of the company's postings can be managed from anywhere, including Indeed’s mobile apps, which are available on both iOS and Android.
Now regarding ATS, what does indeed offer? Though it's not technically ATS, one can experience the same processes thanks to Indeed’s Recruiter Extension. When you have that downloaded, it streamlines the hiring process. So if a job candidate applies, you can review their resume, application assessment test results and cover letter before scheduling an interview. This all happens without leaving the Indeed site. Along with that, the extension allows employers to export and import candidate data from Indeed to their separate ATS effortlessly.
There's only one major downside. Casting a wide range of applicants has a limited reach. At the time of recording. Indeed does not syndicate job postings across other job boards, and job openings posted to Indeed do not appear in search results for the Google Jobs in-browser app. Unlike some of its other competitors like ZipRecruiters, which do. That being said, Indeed is one of the most popular job board sites on the Web. So job openings posted there typically rank high in Google search results, and many qualified candidates search the Indeed site directly for new postings.
Finally, there’s screening questions. Indeed provides a selection of questions for employers to choose from and allows them to add up to one custom question. The recruiter can mark each question as preferred or required, and candidates who do not meet the required criteria will be screened out immediately unless they select the option that Indeed should notify them about all applicants. Indeed also goes a step further by providing the option to evaluate qualified candidates using skills assessments.
Once you find a quality candidate, you can invite them to take more than 150 expertly designed test assessments to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. I think Indeed has a lot of useful features as a job board service, especially thanks to its ATS integrations. Plus it's more budget friendly for all types of businesses because of its only pay per application submitted, and an employer can set a budgetary cap in advance. It may only be a single job board, but it's incredibly popular and most potential candidates are already actively looking on the website.
But that's only one job board solution out there. If Indeed doesn't sound appealing to you, then there's a list of other ATS programs to review at your leisure at TechnologyAdvice.com.
