Hello, I’m Justin Fraction here for TechnologyAdvice and we’re back again with another video from our series on the Best HR Mobile Applications for 2023. In this chapter, we’re going to take a look at the mobile magic of BambooHR. (Aside) I always thought their logo should be a little panda, eating bamboo with a suit on because he works in HR. Get it. Missed opportunity there. BambooHR is one of our favorite all-in-one HR software solutions for small and mid-sized businesses.
Compared to our other favorites, Paycor, which we covered in our last video, or SageHR, which we will cover in our next video, Bamboo’s mobile app allows you to do almost anything you want just like its desktop counterpart. (Aside) That is as long as you subscribe to the associated feature. Oh look, it’s Petey Panda! Yes, I’ve given him a name. What’s that Petey? Petey wants me to remind all you BambooHR fans that if you lack a dedicated HR, office or IT staff, or even a physical location, BambooHR is great.
Why? Because it has nearly every must-have HR feature that we covered in our first video in mobile form. However, it’s more expensive than Sage HR, Connectteam, or Homebase to start so it might not be the best solution if you’re only looking for an employee directory of communication app. So, here’s a spotlight on a couple of features that we like about BambooHR. Time-Off Requests: Employees can request time off via the BambooHR app. This will then automatically trigger approval workflows with managers.
This eliminates manual PTO request procedures, generates an audit trail, and provides transparency to teams on mobile calendars. And as you all know, Petey the BambooHR Panda created by TechnologyAdvice’s own Mackenzie Fay loves transparency. Oh, he has a work related joke. What’s that? He said what’s black and white and goes round and round? A panda stuck in a revolving door! Petey loves jokes but you know what he loves more? Bamboo HR’s Employee Directory!
With BambooHR’s employee directory, you no longer have to go through multiple apps to get the information you need because BambooHR has its own database with access to coworkers’ information through the app. So if you only have your phone with you and you need to communicate with a coworker that may be late for a shift to ask if they’re okay, you can do that with info from the app without contacting their manager or HR to get the info you need. There are a few key things that our experts like and don’t like about the software and since we like to keep things balanced we’re going to give you both.
Things we don’t like: BambooHR has a separate program called BambooHR Hiring for ATS (applicant tracking) features. While the ultimate functionality of the program with all of its fixins is great, you must purchase BambooHR add-ons to get that additional functionality like payroll or benefits administration. Finally, while they do have apps for iOS and Android both users have reported that there are slow app response times. Now here’s the good news: BambooHR has a centralized team calendar where you can get a birdseye view of everything everyone is doing for planning.
It has support for electronic signatures on important documents like policy acknowledgments. Finally, it has automated reminders and notifications on employee goal progression to help your company achieve departmental success. Oh, look! Petey the Super Amazing, Brilliant Wacky but Lovable Internationally Famous BambooHR Business Panda Bear came back to hear the good news so do you want to help me wrap this up? BambooHR’s mobile app is a mobile app superstar.
It has extensive functionality and works wonderfully if you have a diverse team that may be on-site, remote, or out in the field. The mobile app unifies a team which always improves data and communication efficiency. You know who else is a superstar? You Petey, thank you for dropping by! Oh, here’s one last joke. What kind of socks do Pandas wear to work? None, they have “bare” feet!” If you’d like more information on Bamboo HR’s application or any application really, you can check out our website at TechnologyAdvice.
