Canvas is an LMS software solution especially built for academic institutions. Built by two graduates of Brigham Young University in 2008, Canvas continues to be one of the most renowned LMS software providers for schools in the US and other countries.
Some of the educational organizations using Canvas are the University of Maryland, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Washington.
Litmos was founded in 2007 as a learning management system. In 2011, CallidusCloud acquired Litmos and in 2018, SAP acquired CallidusCloud.
SAP Litmos’s primary focus is to provide businesses with a better system for employee training. Although most of the clients of SAP Litmos are from the corporate industry, they still offer solutions for academic institutions.

Course creation
Canvas lets instructors create courses manually. Courses may be uploaded through a CSV upload or integration with school information systems. You can also copy existing courses to a new course in Canvas. Components of the created courses like dates of assignments and events related to the course may be edited within this feature from Canvas, too.
The course builder feature from SAP Litmos lets instructors upload, create, and preview courses. This feature lets instructors build courses from scratch, upload content in video or audio format, link courses from third party locations like Dropbox, or copy existing courses in Litmos.
Multi-language capabilities
The language support feature for Canvas lets teachers assign the language of a particular Canvas course or account. When this happens, the content of the Canvas account is automatically translated. At present, the multi-language features of Canvas include translations for English (Australia), English (UK), Japanese, Arabic, French, Chinese, Dutch, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Canvas plans to expand the number of languages they support.
SAP Litmos offers its multilingual support features to international schools and corporations, too. SAP Litmos include training in various languages such as English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Finnish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Thai, Slovak, Norwegian, Polish, and many others. SAP Litmos is still working to incorporate new languages into their LMS.

Canvas Badges is the gamification feature for Canvas. Badges may be rewarded by instructors to students for their participation, achievements, completion, or attendance. Students or learners may display these badges on their profile to show their course accomplishments.
For SAP Litmos users, instructors can award trainees, employees, or students with badges and points for course completion. In addition, students can download certificates for their achievements. Learners, employees, and students may also view their ranking in the Leaderboard.
Unique features
Canvas has features you won’t find on SAP Litmos, like the Learning Mastery Gradebook, which allows teachers to monitor student performance as a whole. Private messaging is also possible with this feature from Canvas.
The Parent Co-Enrollment feature is another unique capability from Canvas. This feature lets parents keep track of how their child is doing in school. Grades and due dates are just some of the information that parents can view with this feature.
SAP Litmos also has capabilities that Canvas doesn’t. SAP Litmos has an E-Commerce feature to allow courses to be sold.
Integrations
Canvas integrates with numerous apps, systems, and software such as Student Information Systems (SIS), Youtube, Skype, Adobe Connect, Microsoft Office 365, Moodle, and Blackboard. This LMS software also supports integrations from other external tools.
For SAP Litmos, the integrations include SalesForce, OneLogin, Shopify, Ping, Okta, Centrify, and Box.
