Welcome, today we’ll be looking at Practice Fusion, an EHR vendor that offers both a free and a premium solution that includes e-Prescribing, scheduling, referral management, and more. This video is brought to you by TechnologyAdvice. Our mission is to educate, advise and connect buyers of business technology and one of the ways we do so is by providing unbiased reviews of software. This video review is for Practice Fusion, a provider of electronic health record (EHR) solutions for small practices, large medical groups, non-profits, and clinics.
The Goal of Practice Fusion is to work with practices to help practices improve patient care and workflow without incurring additional expenses. Practice Fusion is a scalable solution for growing practices and supports a variety of different medical specialties at no cost. This EHR solution can be implemented instantly, allowing physicians to continue working without disruption. In addition, Practice Fusion’s platform has a proven record of reliability, is fully-certified, and is 100% HIPAA compliant.
This is the Practice Fusion home screen. Users are brought here after entering their practice information and selecting whether they would like to import or opt-in to features such as e-prescribing, labs, and imaging centers. Across the top are shortcuts to windows that have been recently visited. In the top right is a help button and settings. Within the help section users can take advantage of a live chat function as well as access different tutorials and knowledge centers.
To the left hand side are shortcuts to the meat of the application, a schedule, tasks, charts, and more. Users also have the ability to quickly and easily lock the portal to go visit a patient. The dashboard offers a glance into the many sections within the software that help users better stay organized with their practice such as billing, direct messages, and tutorials to help you better understand features. Below, users will see information about their practice and quick links to features to opt-into such as e-prescribing and imaging centers.
We’ll start off with the schedule section of practice fusion. It’s here that users can see basic information about patients and the appointments scheduled for the day. The list view is helpful to see the kind of patient and chief complaint so users can prepare for visits. There’s also the ability to view appointments throughout the day with the day view option. Users can quickly update the status so doctors and nurses can determine the order of patients they will be seeing.
With the calendar, users can also jump ahead or back in time to see a patient’s previous history and visits. The next tab is Charts. It’s here that users can see diagnoses, allergies, and encounters of a patient. Doctors and nurses can also quickly see a patients history of prescriptions and appointments. When adding to the profile, users can quickly choose from more popular diagnoses and allergies or input something new. At the top users can view a patient’s timeline or history.
The history icon is very helpful for viewing notes on a patient’s past visit. There are several billing options within the billing section including the ability to create superbills from patient encounters, connect existing billing systems, or even create a new billing system that will integrate with practice fusion. Within tasks users can connect labs and imaging centers to their practice. All labs can be sorted based on approval rate, connections, and proximity.
It’s here that doctors can also e-prescribe and submit refill requests. Doctors can also view unsigned lab reports or unsubmitted bills. By clicking actions, users have the ability to convert historical unsigned encounters to tasks or delete prescription and refill histories. The messages icon allows for users to communicate with other doctors and nurses. Here’s an example of a message that was marked as urgent and sent to the entire practice. This ensures everyone is aware of the message and can easily address when issues arise.
This tool can be helpful for inter-office communication and can help teams stay organized and informed. Last but certainly not least is the reporting functionality. It’s here that users have access to a variety of information and reports. Everything from a diagnosis registry to medication reports and patient lists is available for practices to develop actionable insights such as which diagnosis are increasing. Made for practices of any size, Practice Fusion has a free and premium edition.
A limitation we noticed while reviewing was it would be nice to edit within sections and windows by right clicking. Sometimes it was difficult to figure out how to edit various patients or events within the system. Also the software partners with Experian for login verification which seemed slightly unnecessary and spooky. Also the privilege restrictions for staff, nurse, nurse practitioner, and doctor were a tad confusing. In summary, Practice Fusion helps practices: 1.
Organize their patients in a simple and flexible interface 2. Easy charting and scheduling 3. Labs and imaging to keep your practice connected To find out more about Practice Fusion or other practice management software, check out our website where we can help you find technology that will fit the needs of your work.
