Welcome today will be looking at basecamp an online project management tool. This video is brought to you by technologyadvice smart adviser which lets you compare the top project management companies based on your individual needs. We’ve previously looked at the basecamp mobile app on the iPhone so today we're going to show you the online interface. When we open base camp we will be brought to this screen where we can see all over ongoing projects.
We can also add a new project here by clicking on this little green plus sign we can also add a new project here by clicking this button on the left. If we click on a project we can see an overview everything that's going on. There's latest project updates here discussions that we have going on and our in project to do lists. Each project can have multiple to do lists which makes basecamp pretty flexible for larger business projects that might span multiple departments or might have interoffice collaboration.
We can also dive further into any of these categories by selecting one of the options up here on this header. There’s also the ability to upload a file or text document directly into the project and another cool feature of basecamp is the catch up button on the top right here. Clicking it will give us a summary of what's happened today or any changes that have been made. It’s a pretty good way for project managers to stay informed if they’re ever seen multiple things.
There's also a calendar view which we can access up at the top here this will give us the next six weeks with all of our to do items or any other dates we've attached to things. The everything button is pretty self-explanatory and gives us the ability to see all of the information from all of our projects such as every discussion that's taken place or every uploaded file. Finally the progress button will breakdown all the actions inside a project and display them in a time line format this is a pretty cool feature if you just want to get a feel of how much was done each day over the course of a week or a month.
So that's the basics of basecamp’s online interface. It's very simple you should be able to jump in without too much of a learning curve and it can work for larger projects. The workflow isn't built around any one industry so it might not be perfect for very specialized companies but that also means that it can be used by almost anyone.
