Toucan Toco is a fully cloud-based, end-to-end analytics platform built to destroy the friction that exists between people and data.
The Toucan team has worked from day one to make every experience on the platform simple, fast, and understandable even for complex tasks.
Users can connect to any data, cloud-based or other, streaming or stored, using Toucan’s AnyConnect™ — a suite of hundreds of included connectors.
Preparation of data is equally simple with Toucan YouPrep™ , a visual data readiness feature that lets business people perform tasks with data that would ordinarily require a data expert.
Visualization takes the form of “data storytelling” where every chart is accompanied by context (like definitions), collaboration, and annotation so that users understand the “why” and not just the “what” of their data. And, to make getting started easier, Toucan includes an “App Gallery” of starter dashboards, GuidedDesign™ to aid the selection and layout of charts, and sample data sets for rapid prototyping.
Finally, deployment and management are made “friction free” with one-touch deployment from staging to production, easy embedding with web components or iFrames, and publishing to any device — web, smartphones, tablets, or kiosks/wall displays — in a single action.
It’s all governed with row, role, or user-level security with a complete audit trail and on-boarding and engagement is aided by user automation and management functionality built-in.

Cons of Toucan Toco
- Toucan is not a platform designed for data scientists. Those looking for expert-level features like notebooks, code editors, and R-integration should look elsewhere.
- Toucan is an “opinionated” platform. It removes complexity by making some design and layout decisions for the user. If you need to specify pixel-level chart positioning or the corner radius of your bar charts, this isn’t the platform for you.
Breakdown of core features
Toucan Toco includes hundreds of connectors for all manner of data sources including Snowflake, MongoDB, Excel, Salesforce, and others. Connectors are easily configured by business users and no code is needed to perform data connections.
Toucan’s YouPrep™ system allows users to perform joins, slices, pivots, & melts easily and code-free. Ad hoc transformations are supported for evolution computation, date aggregation, ranks, other critical statistics as are complex, multi-way joins. Python can also be used to extend Toucan’s data prep capabilities.
An App Gallery of dozens of starter applications (e.g. sales, marketing, etc.) allow the user to get started quickly using templated dashboards. Each template also includes sample data so the user can see what the final product will look like. Guided Design is Toucan’s term for their process of walking the user through the selection of data, charts, and layouts quickly so that the focus is on the data story, not the design mechanics. All charts and visualizations contain context such as definitions and sources as well as actions such as annotations and collaboration either inside Toucan or in tools like Slack or MS Teams.
The Toucan platform allows easy embedding into SaaS products using either web components or iFrames and can be performed by even non-expert users. Changes can be moved from staging to production with a single toggle and the platform contains robust adoption management tools for on-boarding and the automation of core user management tasks.
Extensive white-labeling customization capabilities allow customers to make the end experience look and feel like an extension of the company brand and include color palettes, type faces, languages, logos, and background imagery.
