Cortex product overview

Cortex is a software engineering platform that enables teams to organize critical information about their microservices like ownership, documentation, and dependencies. Teams use this information to grade the quality of their services based on their production readiness and security compliance. It ultimately drives the adoption of the developer’s best practices that will allow them to deliver quality products to customers.

Cortex empowers engineering teams to understand and improve their services. It helps teams understand their architecture at a glance – everything from ownership to runbooks, by aggregating data from tools like Datadog and Okta. Software engineers can build report cards that score services against initiatives and service quality standards, letting teams instill a culture of quality. Furthermore, the platform provides a System of Record for Engineering to give developers and SREs comprehensive microservices visibility and control.

Service catalog

Service Catalog allows teams to visualize dependencies and understand service performance against SLOs, enabling developers to make informed decisions in complex software environments. It integrates with engineering architectures and tools, streamlining the organization of critical information about services and understanding dependencies. With this feature, teams can focus on resolving downtime incidents, instead of scrambling to find key information across different tools.

Scorecards

The Scorecards feature enables users to define and enforce standards like production readiness and development quality without building scripts and maintaining spreadsheets. Scorecards fetch data automatically from integrations without manual work, letting users easily apply standards across all tools. Teams can ensure that each service has accountable owners, an on-call rotation, and high test coverage.

Teams

Cortex’s Teams prompts collective ownership of services, accelerates developer onboarding, and improves cross-team collaboration. Organizations can integrate Cortex with their IdP and automatically sync team memberships. Every team gets its own hub where they can define their team’s charter, share important links, and facilitate new developer onboarding. Team notifications keep members updated on their ongoing initiatives and any regressions in the quality of their services.
