What & Who

SPTechCon is an annual SharePoint conference held in San Francisco. It takes place April 22-25 this year, and is organized by BZ Media, a tech publishing company that hosts other popular events including Android DevCon, and Big Data TechCon. Like other BZ Media events, SPTechCon is designed to provide a hands-on learning experience. The presenters have years of real world experience. Many of them are SharePoint MVPs and Certified SharePoint Professionals.

SPTechCon will appeal mainly to IT professionals interested in gaining additional SharePoint experience and training. Professionals who are overseeing a migration from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 will be particularly interested in the best practices course and tutorial sessions. Business managers and analysts should find plenty of relevant information here as well, including classes on the social media capabilities of SharePoint, and business intelligence reporting. Finally, SPTechCon will feature developer training tutorials for any SharePoint developers looking to broaden their skills.

SPTechCon is the preimenent SharePoint in the US, and possibly the world. The event draws hundreds of attendees each year, and employs a rigorous quality system on their seminars. After each conference, every class is reviewed and ranked on a ten point scale. Only courses that score an eight or above are invited back, ensuring that every class delivers top-quality instruction. This year the topics include building SharePoint-hosted apps, how to integrate and use Yammer, document management tutorials, and the best field practices for SharePoint performance.

What to Expect

SPTechCon begins Tuesday, April 22 at 7:30am and runs through the afternoon of Friday, April 25. Day one is devoted primarily to hands-on tutorials, with networking and coffee breaks throughout. It wraps up at 5pm. Day two starts again at 7:30am for coffee, and features a mix of keynote addresses, technical classes, and sponsored sessions before ending with a round of  “lightning talks” in the evening. Day three follows a similar schedule, with a wide variety of tutorials, classes, and keynote speakers. There’s also a Women in SharePoint Luncheon. The final day features an Exhibitor open hall, and a few last networking opportunities before wrapping up at 4pm.
