GalacTek Software, based in Florida, USA, develops the ECLIPSE¬†practice management and EHR software solutions. Marketed as an all-in-one product, GalacTek’s ECLIPSE¬†comes in Standard, Plus, and Advanced versions, with increasing levels of functionality; the more expensive two of the options include more robust billing and coding features appropriate for multi-provider, mult-facility medical practices.

GalacTek’s first software product was a simple but powerful practice management system, released in the 1980s, that was the basis for ECLIPSE . As the company has grown, GalacTek has added functionality, including SOAP patient encounter notes, document management, form generation, electronic insurance billing, accounts receivable management, and much more. One of the more robust features of the ECLIPSE system is the ECLIPSE scheduler. Staff can view appointments by day, week, room, or provider, cut / copy / paste appointments, automatically send appointment reminders and missed appointment notifications, access a host of custom reporting options, and even integrates with SMS for easy communications with patients. The ECLIPSE system, in addition to the already mentioned form generation capabilities, has customizable templates for SOAP notes, appointments, and more, enabling increased efficiency, reducing potential mistakes, and capturing revenue leakage. Another strength of ECLIPSE’s system is its focus on single-screen access to all pertinent information, whether during the patient encounter or any other part of the clinical workflow; this reduces the amount of time spent in drop-down menus or flipping between screens, which increases efficiency and patient flow.

Cheap price, for a glitchy and confusing software

What do you like best about this product?

Support is fairly good. You can usually connect very quickly and Ryan Weaver is very helpful.

What could be improved about this product?

The program has redundancies and discrepancies in just about every tab, and is generally very unorganized. You must learn many little tricks to get what you want done. I have errors come up in the program constantly while I use it. For example, the patient’s DX codes (which are displayed under assessment rather than plan) can be generated in the conditions tab or under the patient encounter, but these two areas do not sync up. Every time you click on the DX tab under the patient’s encounter, it generates that DX under the condition, but not vise versa. So, if you edit under the conditions tab, it does not generate under the patient’s encounter. The same goes for CPT codes. Writing is one way only and the two areas do not communicate. In fact, editing CPT codes actually generates a new set of CPT codes in the ledger creating duplicate codes that need to be deleted in the ledger. The billing section with it’s guarantors is equally redundant and confusing. Beware, you get what you pay for.

What was your main concern about buying this software?

Functionality. This is not a stream-lined or user friendly software as advertised. I’ve used other softwares and I have never had this much trouble before.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you seen?

I’m not yet seeing a benefit besides just being paperless. It is definitely not quicker than paper. I think I just threw away over $4k on a software I can’t use.
