About Epic

Founded in 1979, Epic provides electronic medical record (EMR) systems, practice management software, and hospital information systems for mid-sized and large medical groups, hospitals, and integrated healthcare organizations.

Epic’s EpicCare Ambulatory EMR platform is ideal for use by large hospital systems and multi-location practices. This EMR solution includes an intuitive “Smart Software” feature used to learn user preferences, guide actions and suggest corrections. Epic’s EMR solutions work well for hospital systems seeking an efficient, intuitive, and secure method of managing electronic medical records. This platform can be personalized to fit the preferences of each physician, and includes filtering tools designed to make the process of chart review more efficient. Workflow management is streamlined through the program’s task bundling feature. EpicCare Ambulatory EMR enables patient-entered information from MyChart to automatically sync with EpicCare’s chart, a feature not available with other programs. This platform also expedites note-taking with speech recognition features and NoteWriter, a feature that allows physicians to catalog their every clinical observation. EpicCare Ambulatory EMR’s telemedicine option is an excellent feature for encouraging patient engagement and reducing expenses. EpicCare maintains strict compliance with privacy regulations and includes advanced metrics to evaluate quality, productivity and financial data.

Additionally, Epic offers their Resolute / Prelude / Cadence practice management systems to large clinics and hospitals. Practice management, or hospital information systems, enables provider organizations to have more insight and control over the entire administrative process; Epic practice management software handles the entire experience, from pre-registration to collections and all steps in between.

EpicCare Ambulatory EMR has been implemented by 100% of HIMSS Stage 7 hospital systems. The Deaconess network of hospitals, clinics and specialty centers implemented EpicCare Ambulatory EMR as the foundation for their CareConnect service. Deaconess’s medical team is now equipped to improve their coordination of care, increase their productivity and provide better health care services for patients throughout Deaconess’s more than 20 facilities.

Terrible for out patient use

Ease of Use
Reviewed on March 14, 2015

What do you like best about this product?

The colors of the screen. Nice blue and yellow colors. If they get rid of the fancy colors, then the system could be faster. Each click takes about 0.5-1 second of lag time. I\’ve complained multiple times to EPIC, and they state that there are not enough servers provided by the hospital. My response is that they are really stupid to develop a system that functions in that way.

What could be improved about this product?

Way too many clicks to get anything done. Slow and inefficient. The simplest task takes forever. Seeing the same number of patients in the day has added 3 hours of work time.

What was your main concern about buying this software?

It wasn’t my choice. I hear the cost is outrageous as well.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you seen?

Just a bad system. Every time I use, I get more tired of it.

How likely would you be to recommend this software to a friend or colleague?
