What do you like best about this product?

Jira does an incredible job balancing usability and power. There is a ton of flexibility to make the tool work best for your team, and the process of adding and managing “issue” flow remains very simple.

What could be improved about this product?

Jira is very good at helping us manage small, executable development tasks, but it does not meet the need of understanding the full scope of an “Epic” (big project). As such, our product team uses different software products to help formally communicate Epics (word processing, collaboration, and wireframe tools). This isn’t a complaint with Jira, it’s simply an opportunity for Atlassian to provide even more value throughout the product design and development life cycle.

What was your main concern about buying this software?

N/A – I joined a team that had already purchased and implemented Jira.

When I first started using it, I was concerned about how long it would take to learn to use the product efficiently, but I learned it very quickly with no training.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you seen?

We use Jira to manage iterations in our software. We have a remote development workforce, so this is the central tool used by our development and product teams for formal communication around issues (stories, bugs, features, etc.).

How likely would you be to recommend this software to a friend or colleague?

9/10

What do you like best about this product?

It is a common platform for everyone who is directly or indirectly related to a project.
The GUI also makes it so simple to demonstrate and understand progress of a project.

What could be improved about this product?

Since everything is working fine with JIRA I may not have a detailed improvement plan.
I want it to be more a Tile-oriented theme now.

What was your main concern about buying this software?

The EASE – tracking down your progress is always a crucial aspect.
We want everyone on the same page and yes, JIRA delivered it for us.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you seen?

There are lot of benefits JIRA has brought to us. Most important is the ease for everyone to look at what is expected from them and where are they on their journey.

As a team, we always track when we can relax and when we need to accelerate.

How likely would you be to recommend this software to a friend or colleague?

10/10

What do you like best about this product?

I’ve used JIRA at two Internet enterprise firms, and both times have loved how it’s handled our sprint planning, tracking, and review. While I’ve been told how “we used to do it with walls of sticky notes” I’d cringe if I had to do that anymore. JIRA’s built-in graphing makes it easy to generate and look at burn downs and track velocity. Its integration with email streamlines communications, both between the sprint team members and external parties and stakeholders. When properly used, all steps of the workflow are clear and everyone knows what’s needed when. Sometimes I’ve wished I had JIRA set up for non-tech things, like just general office “to-do” flows… Granted, it does need to be set up fully and properly. And if the team doesn’t “buy into it” — as in use it to its fullest extent as its meant to be used, it’ll fall apart and feel like a nuisance. But JIRA, and Scrum itself, exist as a means of documentation and clear communication. Stick to the tenets of Scrum, use JIRA tickets as they’re meant to be used, and everyone will have a good and easy time. Full Disclosure: I was not involved with the purchase of JIRA at my respective companies, and our support was handled in-house. So I really wouldn’t know what to put for those. But aside from that, Ease of Use definitely warrants 4 Stars, and Functionality certainly deserves all 5 Stars!
